Sailability

What is Sailability?

Sailability offers an opportunity for people, whose disabilities usually deter them from enjoying dinghy sailing, to get out on the water. It is part of an RYA nationwide scheme which offers people of all abilities the opportunity to enjoy the fun and freedom of sailing.

Sailability at Papercourt offers a special experience in a place that has a very welcoming, supportive and friendly environment.

How does it work?

We pair up sailability sailors with a very experienced club sailor in one of our double seater Access dinghies. As their skills and confidence grow they can take over.

Some prefer the large Cornish Crabber "Lady Jay", and we also have a Wheelyboat which will accommodate wheelchairs for those that prefer power to wind.

Safety and comfort are our top priorities. Our six Access dinghies are designed so that they will not capsize, so no one is going swimming! We have two fully-equipped safety boats on the water at all times, operated by experienced and trained members.

Sailability usually takes place on the 1st and 3rd (and 5th where there is one) Friday afternoons during the summer season from Easter to October, from 1.30 pm to 4.30 pm.

Sailability is run by volunteers and there no charge.

If you would like to volunteer and help with the smooth running of the Papercourt Sailability programme then please contact sailability@papercourt-sc.org.uk

We always need help with instructing, safety boat driving and crewing, and preparing home-made cakes and biscuits for our guests and our hard-working volunteer team.
